Starch was tasked to create an engaging environment and guest experience for the world premiere of adidas skateboarding’s first full-length feature film in Los Angeles and New York City, followed by a 28-stop North American premiere tour.

Our role on this project included front-to-back logistics: full event design, run of show, venue sourcing and design, site build, entertainment/talent support, managing food and beverage vendors, through to event strike.

Originally, the venue for the global premiere was The Hanger, located in East Los Angeles. After months of design, permitting, and preparation, the City of Los Angeles pulled permits due do to safety concerns in the neighborhood 6 days prior to the event. Pivoting from an extremely challenging roadblock, The Orpheum Theater was selected as an alternate venue, and original design concepts were adapted to fit the smaller footprint of the new setting. With a drastic shift in logistics and execution, Starch pushed around the clock and successfully executed a seamless turnkey event. Attendance exceeded 4,000 guests—doubling theater capacity with added live entertainment with a legendary lineup that included Snoop Dogg, DJ Premiere, and House of Pain.

Less than two-hours after tear down of the L.A. event, the Starch team boarded a flight to New York City to produce an equally impactful event in Time Square’s Playstation Theater. The following week, simultaneous screenings were held in major U.S. cities including San Francisco, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Phoenix, Atlanta, and Portland.
